Abundant Autoresponder Challenge Day #2 – Review your Free Gift

Welcome to the Abundant Autoresponder Challenge Day #2 – Review your Free Gift! Yesterday’s task gave you a pretty good overview over where your opt-in page and welcome email are right now. The rest of the week you will want to review each of your follow-up (autoresponder) emails as you receive them and make improvements as needed. If you missed the post, you can catch up on it here.

Yesterday’s Challenge

Now that you have a good idea of where your opt-in page and welcome email stands, and probably a list of things you want to fix and change, it’s time to take a closer look at the first piece of this entire puzzle… your free gift a.k.a. lead magnet. This is the “thing” you are giving away as a thank you when people join your list. It’s a sample of you and what you do. It is something that will serve them and make their life just a little bit easier. It’s how you invite them to become a subscriber.

Since your free gift or lead magnet is actually a little sample of you and your business, it’s a good idea to change it or at least update it from time to time as your business evolves. Plus, you want to make sure it’s something of value that’s interesting to your readers, which can also change over time. Naturally then, it’s best to start with your target audience in mind. Notice, I said target audience. That means your ideal audience. Which by default means some people won’t want it. But that is OK! If you are going to put all the time and effort into creating this amazing free gift, you want to attract the right people who will love your products, your services, and your guidance. In a nutshell, you want your list to be made up of future customers.

So, do you know who those people are? If not, now is a great time to figure that out and get it clear in your mind.

Once you know who your ideal customer is, think about where they are at right now with their business or life v.s. where they want to go. For example, you could build an audience of parents of toddlers who are just starting to potty train. Their goal is of course to get the kid out of diapers for good and that can pose quite the challenge. Think about what some of the early questions these people ask themselves or what problems they face. In this example, the parent may be wondering when the right time to start potty training is and if there are signs that their child is ready.

So, your challenge for today is to brainstorm!

Spend a little time today to brainstorm some ideas for questions and solutions around this whole idea of what your unique target audience needs and wants. Along the way, think about how your existing lead magnet fits into that picture.

  • Is it a good fit? If not, it may be time to come up with a new free gift a.k.a. lead magnet.
  • Think about the format as well. Is a short report that’s downloadable as a pdf attractive to your market? Or would they prefer a video course or interactive quiz?
  • Put yourself in their shoes and ask what you would want.

If you serve more than one target audience (like I do) don’t try to fit them both into a one-size-fits-all gift. You need to have a unique gift for each unique group. For me, I have one ideal audience whose main focus is on how to use technology to build their business. I have several free gifts for this group, such as my Fabulous Freebie Record Book and my Website Security Checklist, or my Magic Client Door Meditation.

However, my other ideal audience is people who want to develop their intuition and who may or may not have their own business. So, for them I have one very specific gift, my 10 Easy Steps to Develop Intuition e-book. Once you have more than one lead magnet for your ideal audience (a single ideal audience), test them out to see which one performs best for you. It’s time well spent when you find the opt-in offer that really resonates with your people and helps to speed up your list growth.

SECRET TIP:  This is a very important tip… the MOST IMPORTANT tip. Just create a free gift and start offering it! Even if it isn’t perfect. These things are always a work in progress and getting started is the most important step. ? You got this!
